Northwest Fly Tyer

The fly tying pages of Monte Smith

Blacker 7/0

Another Blacker Jointed fly, tied on a 7/0  Gaelic Supreme Harrison-Bartleet.  Yes, the tail and topping meet, so sue me!

I’ve been tying a lot of trout flies, as of late, so this is a return to the classic salmon fly.  Other than battling some wispy ostrich herl, things went along pretty well.

The blending of colors in some of the old patterns is just outstanding.  Dressing the body with all it’s detail is the key to these kinds of flies.  Keep your proportions in mind, and stick to them.

This fly is going to be painted by a local genius artist, and the fly will be mounted beneath the painting as part of the artwork.  I am looking forward to seeing the results and will post a picture of the painting and details about the artist when it’s ready.
